untitled ceramic sculpture

lantern

Reviews

This sculpture, made by David Prince, is absolutely fabulous!  It looks like an orange and black Chinese straw hat.  It is in two pieces.  This work has holes that look like volcanoes, however, it is hollow.  If you lift the lid of it, it looks like a pit.  It looks fragile because it has many cracks and chipped spots on it.  If I had time to talk to the artist my question would be, “How did you make the holes in this creation?”  I thought this masterpiece was an example of unpredictable art.

David Prince, who is an artist, created this sculpture that looks like a modern lantern.  His untitled masterpiece has holes all around it that look like volcanoes or meteors.  I think it is made out of clay because clay is easy to sculpt.  The color is brown with some white and orange.  I think the orange came from rust that must have been produced by iron in the clay.

The main body is shaped like a cylinder.  It is about 10 inches long, and about 7 inches wide.  The top, which looks like a Chinese hat, could be removable.  It is 2 and a half inches long and about 6 inches wide.

The sculpture is very fragile.  Still, you can touch it, but very carefully.  I can tell that it is fragile because of cracks near the holes, but the cracks aren’t too wide.  But still, use caution when touching it.

To me, this untitled sculpture can inspire the design of lanterns.  If I were to select a name for it, I would call the lantern-looking sculpture, “Inspiring Lantern”.
